The two-week Boys’ session takes place at Sky Mountain Ranch in Victor Idaho. Thirty boys, ages 13 through 16, are organized into six mixed-age groups. Each group is joined by an adult male mentor who works with them on Ranch chores, including cooking, cleaning, gardening, animal care, moving irrigation pipe, hay bailing, and other work around the Ranch.
A Ranch Council of six boys, ages 17 and 18, who have been campers at the Ranch, act as hosts and assistants to the adult leaders, and as role models to the younger boys. They also teach various sports and craft classes to the younger boys.
The Ranch is staffed by a mature couple that acts as directors, a married couple to work with the Ranch Council, a food coordinator, a horse wrangler, and a leader who coordinates service opportunities for the boys in the community of Victor.
The boys participate in work projects, horseback riding, river floating, rock climbing, biking, and various musical and craft activities. They participate in a three-day back-packing trip in the nearby mountains and also enjoy other nature activities.
The Ranch program has a strong spiritual component. Each boy spends some quiet solitary time each day pondering, reading and writing. Each day has a specific spiritual theme which is introduced in the morning by the Ranch Council and discussed in the bunkhouses at night.
Evening activities include games, campfires, discussions, and talent sharing. The boys sleep in bunkhouses that include bathrooms and a sitting area.
The staff is all volunteer, and the boys are not charged an admission fee.
